Athlete Guide

From the Director…

We are excited and optimistic for our 2021 race. We are working with state and local officials to prepare the most updated COVID-19 safe race plan so you can participate in person or virtually and stay healthy and safe. We realize that the races will look different and some of our favorite aspects of the race may have to change, but we are so glad to be seeing you again this year. We are committed to creating a great race experience for you! – Jillian Marshall

COVID-19 Plan

We continue to make regular updates to our planning in relation to the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we get closer to the race, we will finalize our action plan with very specific details. The below information is to help racers at this time to prepare as best as possible.

Course Maps & Description

The City of Colville Recreation Department has been hosting the Tiger-Tri for 29 years and the Tiger-Du for 3 years. This is an Olympic Distance Triathlon. The 1.5K swim is located at Lake Gillette, this pristine mountain lake is located 42 miles east of Colville along scenic WA-20. Parking is located west of Beaver Lodge off of Forest Service road …. Beaver lodge hosts the start and the Swim to Bike Transition (T1).

The current 1.5K course is a counter-clockwise swim starting and ending at Beaver Lodge. The start of the race is an in water gun start. We have 5 bouys to make your way around and back to the shore. We do recommend using goggles that you like for bright light, but note some years there is a fog layer on top of the water that may hinder line of sight.

Average temperature for the water is around 68 degrees with air temperatures at the race start varying each year between 34-50 degrees. A wet suit is recommended. The transition is approximately 75 feet from the waters edge along a dirt road (we add a narrow strip of carpet for sensitive feet). T1 is timed and has a port-a-potty available. You will bag your swim gear as you mount your bike and we will transport your gear to the bike run transition (T2) located at the finish line.

Finish Location

Dean Vaagen Memorial Park, located just south of Highway 20 on S. Silke in the City of Colville.
Parking is limited to a small lot south of the park. We recommend any support vehicles/family members to park at the Colville High School, cheer on their runner as they start the run course and then walk up to Dean Vaagen Memorial Park for the viewing of the finish line.

Age Divisions

Individual: 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Top 3 of each Individual Men’s & Women’s Age Group
Overall Men’s Team, Overall Women’s Team & Overall Mixed Team

Results

We are changing timing to Across the Line Timing; a Spokane, Washington company for the 2019 race. We are working on the transition, but please be patient with us while we work out the bugs of a new system and a new race for them. Remember: You must return your timing chip at the finish line at the end of the event.

Packet Pickup

We are still looking into the details of how packet pick-up will work. Please keep looking for additional information. There will not be any day of packet pick-ups, if you cannot pick up your packed one to two days before the event, we will work with you on adding an additional $10.00 fee to your registration and we can mail it to you. This option will not be available for those doing late registrations.

Volunteers

Volunteers, including spouses or other family members of participants, are welcome. We need good volunteers to maintain the quality and safety of this event. If you are interested in being involved in this way, please contact race organizers by phone, e-mail or registering on our race roster site.
